    Hi una,

     

    You should leave at least 15% free space on you HDD for things to function properly and avoid the situation you're in now. You'll have to delete some large files, or move them to another drive. Videos/movies take up a lot of space, so that may be a good place to start looking. A google search such as the following will show you apps which can determine where your space is being used: "mac app to find where hdd space is used"

     

    You should make a backup of your existing HDD onto a larger HDD before removing anything from your internal HDD. If you don't have one or two, you should buy at least one for normal backups, including Time Machine. HDDs are relatively inexpensive these days.
