Dropbox with Yosemite

I have an older Macbook Pro (15-Inch, Early 2008). I updated to OS X Yosemite 3 weeks ago, and now rather wish I hadn't! I have been using Dropbox on the Macbook for a couple of years and it has worked beautifully (very few graphics, mostly files/documents, so nothing large). First, I had to re-install Dropbox. Since then have had to re-install it twice more because it has simply dropped off my top-of-screen menu bar and refuses to boot up from 'Apps' - even though it is shown in the Apps directory. Has anyone got any ideas or had similar experiences with Dropbox and Yosemite?

Yes, I did try Apple Support! My Macbook's age requires me to stump up £25 for online support and the earliest telephone call back I get offered is middle of next week. This Macbook is a work tool for me, I need slicker support than that.

Incidentally, the Macbook's boot-up with Yosemite has become as slow as my Windows PC was before I binned it in favour of Mac, but that's another thing!

Could you download etrecheck http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck which is a small free app that you can use to generate a system report on your Mac. You can then paste the report in a response here.

I am using Dropbox without any problems. I suspect there is some other issue with your Yosemite installation that is causing the problem.

I'm also assuming that you're using the latest version of Dropbox, and not reusing some earlier download of it which is no longer compatible with Yosemite.

Thanks very much. What version? I guess you mean of Dropbox, but I'm not sure. I use Dropbox Basic, and have downloaded for the third time in the last 3 weeks this morning, so I presume my version is the most recent (just can't find a version number anywhere on the home page!). I'll try the etrecheck solution suggested by Arthur, and see what I get from that. Thanks again. S

Thanks, Arthur. I've downloaded etrecheck (thanks for the tip, nice little app!), and here is its report - bit of a long letter, I'm afraid -

Problem description:

Unstable installation of Dropbox after having upgraded my Macbook Pro (early 2008) to Yosemite from Mavericks. Dropbox worked fine with Mavericks (2+ years) but now keeps disappearing from the sidebar menu at top of screen and although I have the icon in my Apps folder, that will not open the app itself. I have a copy of my data folders on my drive, of course, which do update with my online Dropbox folders most of the time, but not always!
