Q: Safari won't fully load pages

I have a macbook pro and am operating OS X Yosemite version 10.10. I have safari version 8.0 and it has stopped loading pages. It is intermittent when it won't load anything, not even google.com or other search engines, the progress bar only goes part way and then stalls. I am unsure of what to do.

So many people are having problems with Safari in Yosemite, as various different threads testify, and one should not have to resort to all sorts of circumventing tips and tricks in an attempt to solve the issue – helpful as those with technical know-how are being.  It's up to Apple to get the problem of slow loading of pages sorted as soon as possible.  Meanwhile I'm considering ditching Safari altogether and using Firefox or Chrome which seem to be completely unaffected.  I presume that Apple are aware of the problem and wouldn't wish Safari to be relegated to the software scrapheap!

Safari 8.0 in Yosemite is a hopeless waste of time. Apple software is supposed to "just work", so I'm surprised that Apple didn't do a better job of beta testing before they released this dreck. I'm hoping they will release a fix soon; but unless and until they do, I have given up on Safari and have made Google Chrome my default browser. Life is too short for me to have to fiddle around with attempted fixes in order to do Apple's job for them.

    stewcamp-

Thanks for the helpful suggestions.  The trick to turn WiFi off then on and restart Safari immediately corrected the issue.  I also reset the  IP6 to Link-Local only.  Will monitor for the next few days.

I had temporarily switched to Chrome where there were no issues, but it's a pain to switch to a new browser.

    Thank you.

My oldest son is an Apple Genius in another city, but he was in town over Christmas. I was telling him my Safari tale of woe, and he made three suggestions of things I might try. I had already tried two of these to no avail; but the third one was the charm!!

What he suggested I do is the following:

Open the Network System Preference and find the Locations. Edit the locations and delete the current one named "Automatic". Create a new one and name it "Automatic". [He didn't mention this, but in so doing I lost my WiFi connection. I created a new Wi-Fi entry, restarted the computer and it reconnected.]

Safari has been behaving perfectly since then, and is once again my default browser.

    Hey thanks.

The problem was really weird since with Chrome was fine. So I didn't think about DNS problems...but actually I had google DNS and it turned out that that was the problem.

I didn't delete my old profile "Automatic", but just created a new one, since I have many VPN configured on that one, so afterwards I realized the DNS issue.

    Thanks

As an update to this, I currently connect to my airport router using both etthernet and wi-fi.

I just put the wi-fi on for the location services and continuity.

I have set the order of the services in the network preferences to prioritise the ethernet with wifi next.

I  was having the problem of websites not fully downloading and used the change ipv6 hint to get Safari back working. The problem was when I switched on wifi the problem re-occured. I overlooked setting the ipv6 in the wifi advanced settings as well as the ethernet advanced settings. Once it was changed safari worked as it should. Might help someone in the same situation.

System Preferences>select the service on the left>Advanced>tcp/ip>configure IPv6 to Link-local only.

Thank you. Your son IS a genius. I deleted Automatic, and created a new Automatic, and Safari is loading normally, every time.

I created a new location and then switched back to Automatic and then Safari started to load the web pages it was originally having issues with. Perhaps that helps to shake the cobwebs loose

Click on go > hold option key & don't release it > library

Find folders caches , cookies , saved application state , select the contents by using pressing keys command + A , to delete press command + delete .

Also find a folder safari select all contents except bookmarks , this time use three fingers to select the contents .press command delete .

Also folders , input methods , internet plugins should be empty .

Restart from apple logo & empty the trash .

An apple article is there you can follow it : If Safari is slow, stops responding, quits unexpectedly, or has other issues - Apple Support
