iPhone 5s light sensor always on

Hi guys, for some reason my iPhone 5s' ambient light sensor glows red when my iPhone screen is off. It stops glowing when the screen is on. It's the light right next to the speaker on the front screen. This started happening after I dropped my phone in water.

Is there any way to turn this sensor off and if not, is it dangerous to remove the sensor from the phone? It's draining my battery life pretty fast. Thanks!

Water and electronics do not mix. There is likely far more wrong with your iPhone that 'red glow'.

If you perform any unauthorized service on the iPhone, even a simple as opening up the device, then you void any support from Apple.

Best option is to have Apple replace the device. If you have AppleCare Plus, it should cost either $49 or $79. If not, expect to pay $269 for an out-of-warranty replacement.
