When you are told by a Level 8 that your 2006 Mac is too old for Mountain Lion — know it as the truth. No need to Google it. A bunch of people have already asked this question, and received the same answer.

OS X Mountain Lion system requirements.

Specifically, the computer's EFI is 32-bit. Mountain Lion and above require a 64-bit EFI.

The software will prevent itself from being installed on your hardware.

You need an EFI that Apple does not support or likely produce.

Your graphics card will probably not have the correct drivers to run properly.

Google will yield results but they cannot be discussed here, even when you do get it installed your ageing hardware will create problems...........

Ah, thank you. Lion's support page has more details about their requirements. Mountain Lion's was way less detailed. My guess was the processor but this helps. I know my machine is old, I wanted to know why I couldn't update. Thank you.
