Custom background colors in Numbers

Is there a way to create custom colors for highlighting cells and rows in Numbers? I've accidentally imported non-standard colors when opening Excel spreadsheets in Numbers. I can copy and paste the new colors, but if I want to highlight twenty rows and command all of them to use that color, I'm stuck.

Also, is there a way to use special effects, like cross-hatching or tinting? If I remember correctly, I used to be able to apply a color in Excel, then make it look a little different by adding a variety of effects.

Thanks for any tips.

Hi David,

Select the cells/rows/columns where you want to add a Fill colour.

In Numbers 3, Format Panel > Cell > Fill >Colour Fill (from the Pop-up Menu).

Click on either the Basic colours choice (left) or the "rich" colours choice (the colour wheel on the right).

(Hint: command-shift -c brings up the "rich" colours window in Numbers 2 and Numbers 3. Choose from Apple, Crayons, Web Safe or Developer paintboxes).

Drag a colour to the selected cells.

In the "rich" colours window, there is a pallet at the bottom where you can drag and store your preferred colours. They stay there between documents.

Regards,

Ian.
