Q: Show audio waveforms:
Is it true that in "show audio waveforms" you can only vary volume for an entire clip? In Garage Band, for instance and even in ancient iMovie 6 you could easily vary volume within specific areas by clicking on the volume line and dragging it down for a distance, then up again. This is such a fundamental function (ducking) - I must be missing something.

Just to confirm, you are asking this in the Final Cut Express forum - are you asking about Final Cut Express of Final Cut X?
In Final Cut Express, use the Pen Tool to set the keyframes on the waveform to vary the audio level within a clip.
If you are asking about FCP-X, then you need to ask in the FCP-X forum, click here: Final Cut Pro X
