My MacBook Pro 2010 has recently been running very slow

I cleared off my desktop, deleted unused applications and files. Moved pictures/videos to an external hard drive. All this thinking it would help, but no. My macbook shows the color wheel with a 10 sec - 2 minute delay on most programs. I'm not sure what else I can do, please help.

Below is an Etrecheck - thanks.

You have posted in sveral threads. I will only follow this one, so check answers to the other ones yourself.

Do you have the possibility to do a so called clean install of the OS? It would simplify eliminating damaging software very much.

1. It is very likely that there are or were software items that have corrupted your system, even when you now have uninstalled them:

softwares that are hacked with a keygenerator;

softwares that are downloaded from sites as CNET, Softonics, download.com, and so on;

softwares that are downloaded with a Torrent app;

2. Hamachi software is not very safe, and should be uninstalled completely. It has nested in Logmein, so it should be adviseable to uninstall Logmein also.

And there are softwares that I do not know, maybe good maybe bad. I do not have the time now to research them for you now.

And there are tools that are not necessary to say the least and should not return.

----

So backup your user data, format your disk, re-install your OS, then start the MBP to see that there are no issues.

Then install only apps that are downloaded from the developer sites and only what you need. Do not use the backups of apps, all apps to be downloaded anew. Do not use TimeMachine to restore anything, the corruptions are in there too. Do not install all together but after each install or two, restart and see if all is ok. Do not use Torrent apps. Do not install "tools". Avoid Divx, Avoid Macfuse. Avoid Safari extensions, especially the ones you have now (only Adblock, if you must). Do not install Java, only after all is done and OK, and then only when you really need it.

You can do this format and install OS fresh from the Restore Partition (Start with CMD+R).

All this costs much less time, than trying to "repair" everything, which will never be certain to give a good result.

Lex.

1) The report also suggests you are short of RAM:

2.58 GB Page-ins

1.71 GB Page-outs

Your MBP model can support up to 8GB RAM by replaceignt eh two 2GB modules with two 4GB modules.

2) Outdated versions of DivX have caused issues. If you actually use DivX, make sure you have the latest version--otherwise dump it.

3) According to this web page:

http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/23729/macfuse

MacFuse does not support any Mac OS version higher than OS10.6.8---you have 10.8.5. Remove MacFuse per the developer's instructions.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

View ▹ Show Log List

from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
