This is a constant issue for me. I have 4 macs, 2 iPads and 1 iPhone. The issue for me seems that the list will only support 3 devices at one time. I get one going, it kicks another off. I can get the one I'm working on going by variously disabling the iCloud account on messages or unchecking the phone number. I haven't figured out the most effective way. But it's a pain in the butt if one machine suddenly gets kicked off. (I move around a lot to each machine and location).

This needs to be addressed in a simpler way, and the iPhone needs to show all the enabled devices and not just three random ones.

Guys, the simple solution for this is to change your iCloud password and select "sign out from all you devices" and that's it, it will disappear from there, I've also had 3 devices and it was very frustrating this...

I also have the same problem. Either my macbook pro shows up or if I sign out of my iMac and sign back in then only the iMac shows up. Never both. It's always one or the other. My iPad shows up no problem.

Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions. These are mostly user to user discussions.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

Yep, same problem here. My iMac was working fine with test message forwarding. I just got a MacBook Air this week. As soon as I set up the MacBook, the iMac stopped working. I guess Apple has a bug/feature that only allows only one computer to be added?

Also having this issue. 2 MacBook Pros, one 2011 one 2014. I cloned my new computer drive to my old one using SuperDuper. Text Message Forwarding will only work on 1 of these at a time when I try to use the cloned user account on the old Mac. However, if I create a new user account on my old Mac and sign into the iCloud account there, I am able to use Text Message Forwarding on both computers. So, for me it seems to be tied to the cloned user account not working on the old Mac when the new one has Text Message Forwarding enabled.

Did anyone else restore from a Time Machine backup of their other system when this started happening? That is what caused this to occur for me. A clean install works just fine but when I restored from a Time Machine backup, I can only receive text messages on one of my Macs at a time.

Not Time Machine, but I did clone the hard drive from the new Mac to the old one, so everything is exactly the same on the two drives. A new user account on the old Mac makes it work for me, though.

If you're having an issue with a Time Machine Backup, then I'm sure I'm not going to have any luck with wiping the old Mac clean and reinstalling Yosemite fresh and using the Migration Assistant to transfer everything over (instead of cloning the drive). I'll let you know if this makes a difference, though.

I've done both backups from Time Machine and transferring my settings from the other Mac directly and both yield the exact same results so I wouldn't bother trying.

Thanks for the tip, after reading your initial message about Time Machine I figured it wouldn't. When you setup your second computer to migrate/restore from Time Machine, was the user account information (username/short username/login name) all the same as the other Mac?

I restored using the exact same user account.
