Is it possible to password protect the documents file

Is is possible to password protect the documents file on my iMac. I am still using Mavericks (OS X 10.9.5) but plan on upgrading to Yosemite in the coming months. Have 3.1 GHz processor with 8 GB DDR3. Other family members have access to this system. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Click here and follow the instructions. Don't add the encrypted image's password to the keychain.
