I dont know how I ended up with a username that advertises both my name and city of residence (I would never choose such a name if I knew it would be posted publicly), but for privacy reasons I'd like to set my forum username to something that isn't so personal. Searching the forums has led me to believe that there is no way for users to do this, but that mods might be able to assist me. How can I contact a moderator to request a change of username?
don't give up just yet... the Hosts will contact you via email in due time if they are willing to change the username

This made me feel so much better, thank you! That's why it's not relevant anymore, because the issue was resolved. I was just slightly upset when I saw the charge and didn't think I could REALLY not be able to change my username later (yes, I know it's written and emphasised on the signup page 😀).
Off topic: do people really sell Apple IDs? Because I was charged when I tried to change some info on my Apple ID account.

Setting up an Apple ID is free. See About payment card authorization holds in the iTunes Store - Apple Support for information about any temporary holds that may be made as part of validating your identity when you set up an account or make certain changes to it.

Yup. That's almost the exact same info I've found. Really calmed me down. I think I was a bit on edge, because I got an email about someone signing in with my Apple ID, which was not fun.

Ah, you need to watch out for fake emails that try to get you to sign into a clone of Apple's site, then steal your credentials. If you used links in an email make sure they really go to apple.com. If not you may actually need to take action now to prevent your account being misused.

Yes they do - I have seen it reported often in Middle Eastern countries where Apple has no presence via Apple Authorized Resellers - the Black Market is what we in the USA call it.
Since there is no oversight at all, folks dream up all kinds of ways to profit illegally - devices, activation, etc.
Sad but true that you all could not know whether it is normal or not until you begin using them! 😢
