Error 1418, please help me!

Today I used the shuffle as usual in the morning, going to university. When I returned home I took it out from the bag and it didnt answer correctly, it was flashing green and orange as if it hadnt any song!

The guide tells me it's (maybe) because when I fill it with songs I take it out directly from the port in an "unsafe" mode. When I plug the shuffle my computer doesnt recognise it as usual, its like an "extractable disk". So I try to restore it, but its impossible; the Ipod programme has surprisingly disappeared of my PC. In the Apple support page they tell me to download and install the last version of itunes. I do it and its the same. I can't even update or restore the Ipod, when I try to do it the window freezes and I cant do anything -this same happens when I try to open the "extractable disk" to explore it or whatever, what a crap-.

When I open the itunes they say my Ipod is corrupted.
Well, I go to Apple support again and tell me to restart my Ipod Service. When I do it, I open itunes and finally says my Ipod is updated, but not restored. And that's the problem... I try and try to restore, but it always show error 1418.

Please help me!! What should I do??

I have all the same problems and did everything Apple told me to do. Update this, download that, and it only made the problem worse. I have been searching all day for help and tried everything that has been suggested to me and nothing. I wish I could help, I'm just hoping someone will reply here with good news. Apple created this mess and they better fix. Error 1418 out.

I too am having the same issue/problem. Unfortunately, my Shuffle 1gb was a christmas present last year, and no longer under warranty. Everything was fine until I upgraded to iTunes 7, then all **** broke lose. I use my iPod Shuffle every day, I've dedicated a substantial portion of my available storage to a seperate iTunes Library ( I have close to 50Gb of music, so maintaining a seperate iTunes Library costs me almost 100G of space). I just updated to 7.1 hoping that the problem may have been fixed, but I am still having the same problem. Replacing this iPod with another is not an option, but replacing it with another competing manufacture's unit that is compatible with my advanced Sound Card (yes, that manufacturer makes both) is a viable option, although not an affordable one. I asked for an Apple Product on reputation and recommendations of other people and online reviews. These problems I am experiencing and from this topic, others are experiencing, seem to me that APPLE IS PROGRAMMING THEIR UPDATES TO FORCE OUR OLDER UNITS INTO BEING OBSOLETE AND JUST WANT US TO BUY NEW ONES.

If these forums are moderated and/or monitored by Apple personnel, someone needs to respond OFFICIALLY to this thread to address these issues, and reassure us that a fix is in the works either to this software, or a firmware update for our iPods.

restore gives me the 1418 too.

Let's get some information for the Apple Engineers. Please copy and paste these questions into an email, make the subject of the email "iPod error report", add your answers, and send the email to Roy at Apple.

1. What error code are you seeing?

2. When are you seeing it (restoring or updating your iPod)?

3. Which iPod do you have?

4. What version of Windows do you have?

5. What Windows service pack do you have installed?

Hi jaffsb!

now one big problem .. how to transfer songs from ipods to the computer ??? any help ?? any suggestions ??

I would suggest using Senuti for transferring songs from your iPod to your computer.

There are other third-party programs, though, that can do this as well. These programs, for example, basically will do the same thing (all compatible with a Mac):

iPod Access
YamiPod
PodUtil
iPodCopy

I hope this answers your question,
