Unable to install Quicktime

I am unable to install Quicktime on a Windows 7 x64 computer. I get the following error message "the file quicktime_trampoline.qts cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in the cabinet file quicktime.cab"

A quick search of Google says to uninstall and reinstall, but Quicktime isn't listed to uninstall. Manual uninstall instructions say to delete a handful of files from /system32 and /windows folder. None of the files requested are listed to be deleted.

Tried to circumvent and install iTunes, but that won't install either.

The file trampoline.qts I've not heard of? In system32 you'd be looking for QuickTime qts and QuickTimeVR qtx but I don't believe they're part of QT 7.76 but a older version of QT?

Is there a QT control panel? Is QT in the Programs and Features control panel of Windows 7? If so see if you can do a repair. Or repair then uninstall.

If not go to C:\Users\All Users\Apple Computer\Installer Cache and double click on QuickTime. Then double click on QuickTime msi. From there you can repair or remove QuickTime. I'd go with repair to start.

If there is no QuickTime msi file. Then QuickTime will have to be manually removed from the computer.

Quicktime does not show in the Control Panel, it also doesn't show in the Programs and Features to Uninstall. I have folders for "Apple Software Update" and "AppleApplicationSupport" but not Quicktime in the Install Cache folder.

The manual instructions I found say to delete I believe two files from /System32 and 2 files from /Windows. None of those files exist.

For no real reason other then a shot in the dark, I uninstalled the Apple Software Update & Apple Application Support apps. Ran the Quicktime Installer and this time it finished. So maybe Quicktime wasn't the problem, one of those two were.

Either way, problem resolved. Thanks for your suggestions trying to figure it out.

QuickTime never was the problem. Components of a previous version of QT were manually deleted from the computer. Therefore it was useful to see if the msi file was still there or not. If not you'd have to continue deleting manually and possibly into the registry as well. I figured it out along time ago. Take care glad to see you got QT working.
