Battery Drain, 5S and 6 with iOS 8+

I just got a iPhone 6, and after 3 days use, the same problem came back... Battery draining super fast, in battery usage my usage is the same as standby. The main culprit according to Battery usage is Safari, 72% battery usage. I don't use safari and its never open.

History - My battery drain problem started when i upgraded to iOS 8, and continued with the updates. I had a 5S, got it replaced and still the same problem, got a 6 and still the same problem. Battery usage is the same as standby, so it looks like the phone is sucking battery constantly. So it never actually goes into stand by, even though it is.....

Would be interesting to see what other peoples usage is under battery usage, Standby vs Usage and what program is using all the battery.

To all those people trying to fix this with restores etc... nothing worked for me... waiting for a proper update from Apple, (i miss Steve), until then i carry my charger every i go....!!!

If your battery Usage and Standby are the same, there is something stuck trying to process. What is listed under Safari and what is its usage? I know that you have already done a restore, it is not an update you need. This is unique to your device. When you restore, have you tried restoring as new and then testing the device for a period of time without adding any additional content to the phone? Use it clean, with no mail accounts, applications, etc. See how usage goes for a couple of hours. If they remain the same, then there is some other type of fault. If it works correctly, then try putting your backup onto the phone and check usage. If it goes back to the same usage and standby being the same, there is something in your backup that is corrupt. You would have to restore as new again and then add your content back individually from sources, without using the backup. Since this happened on the 5S, that would lead me to believe the corruption moved in the backup since it is happening again in the iPhone 6. Do you use any unusual settings on the phone that go through Safari, such as a VPN or anything like that?

Hi Chris, i tried your idea again. This time though i did not install any apps for a couple of days. i have been slowly installing apps as i need them. So far battery usage is back to normal which is really good. Using about 30-40% a day. So left with 60-70% by bed time. I think one of the apps was corrupt, because the last time i setup as new phone but i re-installed a bunch of apps the same day. And battery usage was still just as bad.

Seems to be a lot of people with the same problem though, i wonder if its the same issue, or maybe different chip sets etc.

Anyway thanks for your input, i was pretty much over it, until you replied, so thanks

(oh and to answer your questions above., )

  • What is listed under Safari? Safari was using like 75-80% of the battery and had low signal underneath it
  • When you restore, have you tried restoring as new and then testing the device for a period of time without adding any additional content to the phone? I have now, and that has seemed to work
  • Do you use any unusual settings on the phone that go through Safari, such as a VPN or anything like that? No

😟 Problem is back, i only downloaded 3 apps. Evernote, idmss pro and some ninja game., i have deleted all three and the battery drain is bad. For some reason yesterday the stocks app was listed in battery usage and ive never used it. at the moment Safari is the culprit again. As in the past with 67% battery usage and with the words low signal under it. Safari is not even open. Phone Usage is at 6 hours,48 minutes, and standby is at 8 hours 6 minutes, which doesnt make sense. i only took it off charge 8 hours ago.

Super annoyed !!
