I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch) OS X Yosemite V10.10. When I startup or restart my Mac, I get this message.Screen Shot 2014-11-13 at 6.32.11 AM.png

What should I do?

Since "web content" is used as the reason (excuse) to install Java, do you have a web browser running when the message appears? Adobe has some software which will complain that Java needs to be installed and that can be fixed by installing Java from Apple. But Adobe's message doesn't mention web content. Do you have Safari or some other browser set up to start when your Mac does? And if so, what web page is trying to load?

Java is not normally installing in Yosemite. I am  suspicious about any webcontent that asks about Java install.

I would not pursue that website any further if I were you.

This occurs just after startup and there are no startup items, no browser launch.

In that case you have malware on the system.

Most of the time an  Etrecheck  list will show the problem.

Would you be willing to download Etrecheck  from  www.etresoft.com   and post the list here?

In searching on the exact wording of the pop-up, it appears you're not alone with that problem. In a number of instances (here, and here), the problem is associated with a Facebook Video Chat plug-in, and, oddly, a solution that apparently works is the link to Apple's Java in my original reply.

If you do install Apple's Java, for security purposes I'd suggest making sure that Java is turned off in any browser you use.

Or, another solution, which is at the bottom of the second forum link, is:

"For me it was under /Users/_myname_/Library/Application Support/Facebook and I just deleted everything in there."

Of course, that might break Facebook, so you might try moving what's in that directory to the desktop so that, if necessary, you can put it back.

I've run MacKeeper Antivirus Scan just now and have been alerted of this> TR/Andromeda.31018227 (See screen shot.)

    Screen Shot 2014-11-13 at 2.16.13 PM.png

I've deleted it and restarted, but still the "Java Runtime..." message remains.

I would be willing to run EtreCheck if needed.

    Thanx

Well you have already found your problem, an etrecheck list would have made it visible too, and more, : you have MacKeeper: read about this Mac killer in hundreds, more even thousands of threads here.

As I mentioned in my last post, the Facebook.videochat plug-in has been identified as the issue by a number of other users with your problem and Apple's Java installer as a solution.

MacKeeper is a separate and more serious problem.

First: you can not give yourself points.

In the etrechecklist it is clear that the serious problem of Mackeeper is not removed.

    There are things to do:

the malware is called MacKeeper, the programmer is Zeobit, but since Zeobit has been bought by another malware oroducer, named Kromtech, the name Kromtech is now there too. Removingin steps:

    1. In Finder  MacintoshHD->ApplicationSupport delete the  MacKeeper folder (with all its contents)

    2. In Finder  MacintoshHD->Library->LaunchDaemons  delete the all files where zeobit is in the name

    3. Restart, then empty the trash bin.

    4. download FindAnyFile  from  http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/  , install it

    5. start FindAnyFile  and type  zeobit  in the search field, hold the Alt(option) key while clicking the Find button (type your password) a list is displayed, CTL+click all entries with zeobit and choose "move to trash". empty the trash.

Then search for  kromtech  in the same way, move to trash, empty the trash

Then search for  mackeeper in the same way, should not find but move to trash if you find, empty the trash.

    6. restart and have fun.

Before I delete MacKeeper I wanted to be sure that it was a problem source. Here's their website: http://kromtech.com They don't seem malicious, but who knows these days?

Kromtech's MacKeeper is the software I passively run on my Mac for antivirus/malware protection, it identified the TR/Andromeda malware yesterday.

Here's the EtreCheck report I ran this a.m. just after startup.

I am not going to discuss this. MacKeepr is super crap. Read thousands of threads here. Believe what you want to believe about good website marketing or not.

You had good advice, take it or leave it.
