Select the process, then click on the Quit icon in the toolbar and Force Quit it. Do the same for the core audio process. You have an audio application running that probably causes that problem. I suggest you quit each third-party utility you have running until it returns to normal or disappears. If it's the latter, then you have a problem with that software.
Did as you instructed. It was my iTunes replacement software VOX. Deleted Vox and all looks back to normal. The coreaudiod remains, will deal with it later.

Mine was iTunes Helper... drive just going on and on. Removed it (not just hide it) from System Preferences > Users & groups > Login Items.

Saw it again... but this time it was emptying a 2GB file securely the trash.

This is what mine was too. Once i quit it, the secure emptying stopped. Probably best to securely empty large file or large amount of files while idle.
