Java Update Notifications. Are They Legit?

Are the notifications that I am getting to update Java Runtime legit?

No, the JRE or JVM is the interpreter. From the JVM Specification, "The Java Virtual Machine is the cornerstone of the Java platform.” https://docs.oracle.com/javase/specs/jvms/se7/html/jvms-1.html#jvms-1.1

A JRE is the interpreter designed for embedded devices. It doesn’t have the application development environment or the hooks to the native host OS.


Without that, there is no Java installed. With it, you have Java; without it, you have a dead Framework.
