Transfer pictures from an android onto mac

I am trying to transfer pictures from my android to my mac. I plugged it into a usb, but don't know what do from there.

MacBook Air, iOS 8.1

The following has instructions for importing from an iPhone or camera and should be similar: Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC - Apple Support
