Yosemite quirk

I'm on a new 27 inch iMac with Yosemite 10.10. This new quirk seems to be related to the new system but I wish I could change it. If I'm simply dragging a file/photo/etc. from my desktop onto any of my hard drive icons (main one and an external disk) and hold the dragged image above the hard drive icon, the window that opens is crammed up into the upper right corner. Previously, the window would open loosely on the finder, mainly where I opened it before. Does this sound familiar and can it be changed? I have not found a viewing preference to alleviate it from opening way up in the upper right.

Thanks

Al

In my case, I dragged a photo from the desktop to my main drive (whose window was closed). I wanted to hold the photo icon over my main hard drive icon to open it up and find another folder (My Photos) within it, to drop in into that folder. But the main hd window that opens is not only crammed into the upper right corner but it does not show a fully open window so I can view all folders within it. It used to open completely showing the 20 or so folders on it. I am not trying to just drop it loosely onto the main hd.
