My apple Tvs (3 of ) won't load the videos, i can airplay from iTunes but this defeats the purpose, i can also se the Computers and the library of Tv shows and items, it just won't load up.

Since doing some updates, None of my three apple TVs will load any videos. They just hang. I can see the libraries and select a show but it will not play, it just is in constant load mode. i have reset the iTunes library, the Mac, the apple TVs, this used to get them to work again. I have even reset the Router. Some of the apple TVs are on wireless and one is wired. I can use them to airplay the shows from my mac via iTunes. It is very frustrating, they all used to work so well for years and now they don't. Any suggestions? Im nervous about going to yosemite due to some rumoured instability issues with hard drives. Otherwise all are up to date.

I opened a guest user account and then option clicked iTunes to then select the iTunes library. I restarted one of the apple tvs (that is ethernet wired). It would see the library and select shows and show a list of episodes but would not load a tv show or video. It still hangs on loading screen. Strangely enough it loaded and played some music from the library. Also the main menu seems to disappear quite a bit, and only shows 'Computers' and 'Settings'.(no other buttons e.g.; Vimeo, NFL now; youtube etc) When i go in 'settings' and select 'main menu' it comes up blank (on Apple TV). Is this an issue with iTunes? store not connecting properly. I have no firewalls (in know) activated. I did activate them once on modem but had too many issues and i am not an IT wizard.

Ok so it is now working...

I have restarted the router twice.. and the reason for twice was that i noticed that the mac hosting the iTunes was both cabled and wireless active. I can only assume this was causing some sort of issue. So i turned off the wireless on the mac and rebooted the router. Two out of three are working perfectly again. The other was rebooted and dewired (i.e. put on wireless). It works but will not connect to iTunes library even though home sharing is on and the other two work.

Wondering if there is a limit on how many apple TVs can run from same iTunes library over the same wireless network ???

There might be a limit, but you haven't reached it with 3 (I have 6)

All of your latest responses indicate a network problem to me, especially the last one.

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.

You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.

Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.

There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

I have never had any trouble for years. Not sure if anything has changed except an apple update and i finally updated iTunes (which i now regret). I have only been having this problem since then,

Now all three are not working again. i have been resetting everything, restoring AppleTVs etc. This is getting frustrating, my babysitting system has now got a flaw.

The wireless works fine. Nothing has changed in the house. From the iTunes host iMac i can still airplay movies to the appletvs , but i can t play movies using home sharing via the Apple TV interface .
