Airplay icon appears, no devices detected

Hi,

An Airplay icon appeared today in the status bar. There is no devices in my network with activated mirroring. The same is shown in the display settings. The icon is still there even when I turn off the wi-fi connection. So, the Macbook is completely cut off from the network. It is still displayed after reboot. Uncheck/Check "Show mirroring options" also doesn't help.

This is a bit annoying for me, even though it doesn't really hinder my workflow. This already happened several times (after Yosemite upgrade), and the icon disappeared just as suddenly as appeared.

There are no extra devices in my network according to the router statistics, so it is unlikely that someone hacked my network and now looks at my screen. Or is it? 🙂

Thanks for any help.

Hey, I'm having this exact same problem with my MacBook Air as well. I made a post about it here:

I can't for the life of me figure out what the cause is and it has me a little paranoid. Aside from me, this was the only mention of this problem I could find. I wouldn't be so worried about it if it were a known bug / a little more common.

Anyway, I'm just curious if there have been any updates or if anybody else has noticed this recently.

Thanks
