Q: Google Search Results keep freezing Safari in iOS 8

I have an iPad Air that is only 30% full, and a good wifi connection. Ever since is updated to ios8 and subsequent updates, my Safari browser will often (but not always) freeze after a Google search. All of the Google search result links will be unresponsive, and will not even respond after I refresh the page. It will require me to close the tab, restart Safari and repeat the Google search. It has been happening for quite awhile. I can quit out of all apps, restart my iPad, close all other tabs in Safari, and still have the problem. Unlike another poster who had the same problem, I do not have any third-party blockers on my iPad, nor have I ever had them.

This his is only one of several glitches I have experienced with iOS 8.

If you didn't do a clean install of your system, you might want to try that. Here is a troubleshooting methodology I gave for another thread ...

Follow this procedure for a Troubleshooting Methodology ... basically reset to factory default condition -BUT- be sure to do the following methodically and also to follow the part with Apple Support!

First you want to make sure you have several backups of your data and done with a couple of "different" sources. Be sure to understand what data is backed up and what is NOT on iCloud Backup and iTunes Backup. Use a variety of methods for backup ... you might check into Dropbox, in addition to your Apple options.

Then turn off your desktop anti-virus software when using iTunes for this reset to factory default. After you do that reset, then leave your iPad in its factory default state and see how it operates then. If you encounter any problems in that factory default state, then take it to Apple Support, and let them know that you have just reset it to that state with iTunes and have not put any of your data back on and it is operating in this fashion (whatever the problem is) in that pristine state. Make sure you keep that trouble ticket number, because if it has to be escalated through Apple Support, you're going to find all communications tied in with that number. If the lower level help isn't able to help you, then escalate it to a higher level to examine the problem. Keep at it with that trouble ticket number until Apple Support arrives at a solution to that problem. Be methodical and keep at it.

On the other hand, if everything is okay with the factory default condition, then restore your backup. Some people have discovered that the problem resides in the apps or something in the restored backup. If that's the case, then it's going to be trying and difficult to find out which developer's app is causing you the problem. And ... it's true ... that a developer not following Apple's instructions and guidelines for his app can CAUSE YOU TROUBLE. This kind of thing does happen from developers, especially when a new system upgrade comes out, because some developers ignore what Apple tells them about changes coming, and what they do BREAKS SOMETHING.

This is a troubleshooting methodology that you are going through. See it through to the end.

That's good ... it's something that should be  preventative measure ... anyway ... for any major upgrades, or if you haven't done it in over a year. It sets your iPad up fresh and that's good. I know it sounds like a lot, but it's well worth it.

One more thing ... even though resetting your iPad to factory default is a good measure ... there MAY be an interim action you can take, if you don't want to do the reset to factory condition immediately. You can go to the Settings app, then Safari, then Search Engine, and choose another one there. You might just try out Bing, for example. It may help ... can't be sure, though.

This may hold you for a little while, until you feel like tackling the reset to factory default ... :-) ...

When you received the iPad 4, what iOS was on it? And, what was the nature of the problem you had? And was the problem evident when you were operating in the factory default condition or when your data was loaded on the iPad 4?

    The problems are CLEARLY IOS8

I am currently running iOS 8.1 on an iPad 4, and am typing to you on it right now. If this were an iOS 8 problem, it would be showing up on my iPad 4 right now. ALSO you'll notice that even here on this forum - where people come when they have problems - you'll hardly find any iPad 4 users.

I would like to find out at what step you were at on the Troubleshooting Methodology given up above.

I'm experiencing the same issues. Also, I often use salesforce and the new software update will cause it to glitch/freeze resulting in a restart. It seems like every time I update the software I am less satisfied with Apple. I have been an Apple user for 9 years now, but bought the Samsung S5 today to replace my iPhone 5S due to those issues and the lack of battery .... I wish they would correct these issues, but today Apple seems to be a company that is slow to react as opposed to the company we all fell in love with that was so proactive.
