Q: Compressor 4.1.3 crashes when using Watermark

When using preset for You Tube, I have attempted to add a Watermark and Compressor crashes every time. I can use any other effect with no problems. Any suggestions?

    Any solution on this?  I'm experiencing the same thing.  I'm running Compressor 4.1.3 on Yosemite 10.10.1.  As soon as I select Watermark under Video Effects, it crashes.  It doesn't even let me get as far as selecting an image. 

     

    Yes, I trashed preferences, repaired disk permissions and rebooted.

    Do you have Qmaster from a previous (<4.1.x) version of Compressor on your system? I f you do, trash it. If that doesn't fix things, with the app closed, go to the Compressor folder in Application support in your Home Library (not the root library). If you have custom settings you need drag the Settings folder to the Desktop. Then move the Compressor folder to the trash. It will be rebuilt when you relaunch the app.

    I did everything you suggested, but I'm getting the same results.  It crashes as soon as I select Watermark.

    Then it's very likely that there is a conflict with other software on your system. If you have installed third party codecs and plug-ins that you can disable or temporarily remove, I would try that. You could also try creating a new user account.

    I have two users on this computer, one that my wife uses, so I switched over to her user and I experienced the same thing. 

     

    When you say third party plug-ins- do you mean FCPX plug-ins or Compressor plug-ins? or both?  I haven't installed any plug-ins

    for Compressor, thats for sure.

    Any of them…most likely FCP or Motion.

    I was recommending a new user, not a different one. create in System Preferences.

    Hi Russ,

    Thanks for jumping in and trying to help. I just completed all of your suggestions and there is NO change. The new user that I created (in system prefs) took a little longer, BUT it did crash .

     

    Don't understand this. Compressor was working one minute when using a watermark, and now nothing. Keep in mind the only issue is with the "add video effect" and selecting "watemark". The other effects that I have tried worked and all else seems to work fine.

    I had also meant to ask about audio plug-ins.

     

    If you don't have any that have been recently installed I would uninstall Compressor and download a fresh copy. When I do this for the ro apps I use the free utility, FCS Remover from Digital Rebellion It rounds up and trashes all the files supporting the app.

    Well, it's now happening to me as well. It crashes the app just by choosing the watermark effect. I'll post back when I have something to add.

    wow...i know you don't want to hear this, but i'm glad it is happening to more than a few.  maybe apple will get involved and help.  looking forward to what you may find. thank you!!

    Don't blame you at all for wanting company.

     

    I do feel a bit sheepish that I didn't try it before I started giving out advice. Overconfidence from having recently done a lot of testing of video effects, (but not including watermark).

     

    So far nothing I've tried has prevented my crashes.

     

    Hoping that some others will post and confirm whether it's working (or not) for them.

    This is really unusual. I actually wrote to apple on the feedback page for Compressor and requested help. I've not run into a problem with an application that has not been able to be found in the discussions. Thanks for the help.

    Hi Tom,

     

    Was wondering if you could open your Compressor App (4.1.3) and try selecting watermark from video effects? And let us know if your App crashes.  Thanks in advance.
