This is because the Mackie onyx 1640i seems to have all kinds of issues every time OS X is updated which is why you should always check first to make there are working drivers for it before updating......

So, according to Mackie's website... the 1640i is not fully supported under Mavericks (10.9 ) or Yosemite for that matter. The latest drivers are only confirmed with 10.8 or lower..... and thats only if you have one of the models that have a certain range of serial numbers...

See their website for more info on what works and what doesn't.

Solution? Currently the only one is to roll back to your previous configuration using your backups.....

Maybe they will produce new drivers.....

But based on Mackie's past history of not updating the i series drivers very quickly, to work with newer OS X versions... it may be quite some time to wait, if it happens at all...

Bear in mind 10.9 has been out for over a year now and Mackie still haven't released updated 10.9 drivers for the i series yet...... so who knows if they will or won't.

Sorry.. not what you wanted to hear I'm sure... but its how it is at the moment.

Cheers..

Firstly, you are welcome....

...and yes, if you read the posts in the various Mackie related forums.. a lot of Mackie owners are very frustrated and disappointed with mackie's lack of speed when it comes to making updates available in a reasonable time...

Here is just one from 2 years ago that was basically about this very issue......

and in fact the heat from their own customers on their own forums.. about such issues... probably led to Mackie's decision to close them down.... last year.

It's a real shame.....

There is another side to this... if you use either hardware or software professionally and the music/gig is important to you... why does one upgrade without making sure everything will be compatible. All one has to do is check the Mackie site to see that drivers aren't available, the only reason I can think of is the new OS contains a must-have feature that you can't live without. Apple's recent history has proven the past few versions of OSX are less efficient than some of the older operating systems when it comes to running Logic professionally. Both Nigel and myself have Snow Leopard/Logic 9 computers that are far more stable than newer systems.

Don't get me wrong, Mackie is lax in getting out updates, I'm guessing their audio drivers aren't done in house. Too bad as I like the interface, it has very good audio reproduction and a nice feature set. Two years ago I was a session player in the last Logic studio in town (that I know of) and they were using a 1640i, worked flawlessly.

Cool, fair enough,i'm 100% into music,i begin to ask myself like you said if i'm using my computer for browsing or something else if not music, like i said to Nigel,i will have to roll back to previous operating system, just not good enough for mackie for their late updating...i hope you guys will supply me with any future information about make i series..

Thanks Pancenter.
