Q: Sync folders on HDD with iCloud Drive

I'm sure that I don't yet understand iCloud fully enough to simply sync a folder on my iMac HDD full of WORD docs with my iCloud drive. Have I got the concept wrong?

Could the iMac Folder and the iCloud Folder remain in sync automatically?

Kind Regards - and please go gentle with me ...

    It works this way:

    • Add iCloud Drive in your Finder sidebar in the Finder Preferences.
    • Drag your folder with Word documents to the iCloud Drive icon.
    • Any folder you are seeing on iCloud Drive will be stored locally on your Mac, so you can always access it, but it will also be stored in iCloud and your other devices will sync with the copy in iCloud.

Just move any folder you want to be synced across all devices to iCloud Drive. Build your syncedDocuments folder on that drive.

Many thanks for coming back to me - appreciated!

If I drag a folder to my iCloud Drive it no longer exists on my mac desktop.

If I Copy/Drag then yes, its on the iCloud Drive and my desktop but the 2 folders are not in sync ...

    Kind Regards

Just create a Shortcut (or Alias as Apple calls it) and put it on your Desktop. Then you will directly open that folder inside the Cloud without needing to go through the whole filesystem.

Will the original folder on the Cloud be synced to the original folder on the HDD? I think not ...

But many thanks for your help!!
