how to change upper case to lower case in pages 08?

I typed a whole (long) paragraph without realising I was in upper case. How can I quickly change this to lower case without retyping? I checked through help menu without finding the answer.

Hi Raymond,

I believe the commands are the same for Pages '08 as Pages '09:

Pages '09: Changing Text Capitalization

You can quickly make blocks of text all uppercase or lowercase or format text as a title.

To change text capitalization:

  1. Select the text you want to change, or click where you want to type new text.

  2. Choose Format > Font > Capitalization and choose an option from the submenu.

    • All Caps:

Choose to change the text to capitals.

    • Small Caps:

Choose to change the text to smaller capitals with larger capitals for uppercase letters.

    • Title:

Choose to change the text to a title format, which capitalizes the first letter of each word.

    • None:

Choose to change text from all capitals to initial caps. For example, the first character in the first word of a sentence is capitalized, but the rest of the text is lowercase.

Cheers,

Hi Mother Load,

"Why doesn't Help supply the answer?"

Ummm... Apparently you didn't notice that Judy's answer was taken directly from the Pages '09 User Guide, the primary Help document for that version of Pages.

In Pages v5 (the current version), a search in Help for capitalization brings up this helpful result:

User uploaded file

Note that there is no mention of changing upper case letters to lower case. Only one of the choices—Title Case—will make that change (sort of). See the example below.

User uploaded file

Title Case here left the initial A capitalized, changes the display of the letters B through I to lower case, and left the rest displayed as lower case.

Note that Capitalization, found in the Format menu, changes only the way these characters are displayed. The underlying character is still in the same case as it was entered.

If you want to change the actual characters from Upper case to Lower case, the easiest method is to copy the block of text, paste it into a single cell of a table, then use the LOWER() function to make the change. Moving the result out of the table and getting it into the text flow can be a bit tricky, though.

Regards,

Barry

That does not change CAPITAL to capital or Capital.

It only works if the original text was actually originally typed as capital or Capital. CAPITAL will stay CAPITAL.

The Pages ALL CAPS or Titling only works up, not down. You will need either a TextEditor that will swap the characters or WordService which includes case conversion amongst the many tricks it performs.
