Q: How can I located encrypted text in InDesign EPUB?

When trying to preview my EPUB (designed as fixed-format in InDesign) in iBook Book Proofer, the preview cannot be processed as the file "can't be proofed because it is encrypted. Encrypted EPUBs are not supported."

ENCRYPTED?

What's encrypted in the document? It appears it might have something to do with embedded fonts but I have not idea how or where they're embedded.

Have you tried the Adobe forums?  I seem to remember this issue being addressed there.

Yes, it has been discussed in a general sense, without real resolution. That discussion centered on the presence of the file encryption.xml in the META-INF folder found when the EPUB file is expanded to HTML. The same discussion blithely says that unzipping the files, and as Adobe says, change the file name from .7z to .epub fixes the problem. Well, OK but Book Proofer then doesn't recognize the file as a valid EPUB.

I was hoping to gain perspective from iBookstore authors
