iOS 8.1.1 update not searching for apps in spotlight

Same problem happened to me on my iPhone 6...

However, after turning it off and back on , The problem was solved!

Same here on my iPad Air. Now it works, but still doesnt't show up Top hits. This is a mess. Apple seems not to be able to rollout an flawlessly working iOS 8.

I have the same problem on my iPhone 6. I have tried rebooting the phone, but the issue was not resolved. Looks like I should not have updated to iOS 8.1.1.

I have the same problem and after a firts reboot the problem was solved till it comes back. So a reboot solves temporally the problem after what, I don't know, the problem comes back back.

Was having the same issue, might have a workaround. Try going into spotlight settings and disable some of the search types. I narrowed mine down to Apps, Messages and Contacts (it's all I ever use it for). Apps started working again. Not sure specifically which one I disabled was causing the issue but I don't want to tinker with it now I have it working.

its not a fix but it might keep you sane until apple fix it

Yea but its keeps on coming back after a while. Switching your iphone on and off is just a temp solutions. 😟

Try mondayuk's recommendation of disabling some of the search types. I narrowed mine down like mondayuk recommended and no longer have an issue.

I noticed after a while I was only getting this issue on my iPhone 6. I also have a 5c, and that did not have the same problem.

Also, after a few days, I turned the disabled search types back on again, and they seem to work now. Not sure if it's a problem with the indexing.

I just reset my iphone 6 plus and spotlight search start working.

Spotlight search was not working at all. Powered off and on, now it is finding some things (i.e. people) but not finding my Apps. Very annoying.

Following Up - I just installed 8.1.2 on my iPhone 5S and Spotlight was not finding Apps. I did get it working just now, will see how long it continues to work. I changed the "Language" to Spanish, then back to English. I am guessing this rebuilt my list of Apps somehow. I also reduced the number of things included in Spotlight search - Apps and Contacts - unchecked everything else.

I've started having the same problem on my iPad Air 2 and iPhone 6 running 8.1.2. Really frustrating. Not sure what really makes it stop, or even which sequence of things I do make it start working again. Sometimes things work, other times they don't.

Almost impossible to use my iPhone with hundreds of apps when you can't find them. Scrolling through page after page with folder after folder...not exactly a solution.

The only way to solve the problem for me was to uncheck some of the spotlights items (like music, podcasts, events, etc...) Now it works fine.

I don't know if the latest version of IOS solves the problem...

I am still standing by the "Change the language to something else then change it back" idea - from what I am reading, this has some effect on the database. Since I did this 12 days ago, I have not had another problem with Spotlight not finding apps ...
