Time Machine and Mail problems not fixed in 10.10.1

Time Machine and Mail seem completely broken in Yosemite. If anything it got worse in 10.10.1.

1. If you see inboxes at all they are empty.

2. Even if you don't press any buttons, Time Machine changes your account descriptions, order of accounts and in one case even disabled an account!

So after entering Time Machine from Mail, even you don't do anything, you have redo a bunch of settings afterwards.

Anybody know a solution for this?

I've tried talking to AppleCare about this (for a month now) but they never get back to me.

Wow. Time Machine even - without touch any buttons - reverted the name of two account mail servers to the old mail servers. Very dangerous!

I cannot reproduce your issues on my system. Entering Time Machine from Mail does not cause any of the things you see. I submit that this is not an OS X problem but a corruption issue on your individual installation.

What do you see when you enter Time Machine from within mail?

Also, do you happen to have an external display? I have one and I think that causes extra issues.

Do you see a stack of past inboxes, and for each inboxes do you actually see emails listed?

How many email accounts do you have? And what type are they - Gmail, etc.?

It may be a corruption issue on my individual installation. Or it may be that we have different numbers and types of accounts. So it would be useful to compare.

I have 4 Gmail accounts, 2 "ordinary cPanel" IMAP accounts and 1 iCloud account. So 7 in all.

I see a stack of past Inboxes with a message to click to restore that specific inbox or select individual messages to restore. And yes, I see emails listed on each inbox. I have a total of 5 accounts, three Yahoo mail accounts, one Gmail, and one iCloud. All are IMAP accounts. I do not have an external display. No changes are made “without touching any buttons.” It all seems perfectly normal to me.

Well, maybe I should just reformat my Time Machine disk and start over again. It's been running for a year, but it's for backup, not archival purposes.

I notice in the release notes for 10.10.1 there is this item:

Resolves an issue that might prevent Time Machine from displaying older backups

It sounds like an acknowledgment that something was wrong in 10.10 with TM. Maybe that is what happened to me.

I'm rebuilding my TM disk now.

Anyway, I rebuilt my TM disk and started over again, getting rid of all my old backups since January.

Time Machine no longer changes the order of my accounts, descriptions or account data. However, all the Inbox pages shown in the stack of pages are empty of messages. It says I can click to restore the inbox or select individual messages. But it does not actually show any messages.

At any rate, Mail still sometimes fails to sync from Gmail (a problem which started happening since the Mavericks upgrade). So I'm back to Mailplane for now. Maybe I'll use Mail just for my non-Gmail accounts. I'm not sure. But it still doesn't seem to work well with Time Machine, even after starting from scratch. The individual mails are not appearing.
