Q: Why do i have to have a credit card as opposed to a debit card to add my 7 year old son to my family sharing account? I use a debit card by choice, what's the problem?

Why do i have to have a credit card as opposed to a debit card to add my 7 year old son to my family sharing account? I use a debit card by choice, what's the problem? There should easily be a way to prove that i am an adult besides demanding we all use credit cards shouldn't there?

Apple please reply to this.  I too am trying to set up an AppleID for my 8 year old and we choose NOT to have credit cards in our family.  You need to come up with another solution.

Apple don't reply here. These are use-to-user forums as you'd know if you'd read the terms and conditions you signed up to when you joined

Google Apple Feedback and leave your feedback there where Apple will see it. But they will nit respond directly there either

I can and do use my debit card in the iTunes store. I just don't see how it would be that hard for Apple to verify my ID. I could scan and send it to them. Perhaps I could go to the Apple store and show my ID? It just seems a little draconian to me, that's all.

I knew these were user to user forums. I was hoping another user had some way to deal with Apple so that I could prove I was a 43 year old man with a son who chooses not to use a credit card. They sure take your money from a debit card if you are making a purchase.

As you probably read, after your credit card is verified as valid, you can immediately switch to using a debit card for payment.

The reason for requiring a credit card is that minors under the age of 18 are unable to obtain them (granted, it is possible for a minor to develop an identity sufficiently to fool a credit card company, as one of my enterprising youngsters did, but generally that is not the case, and credit card companies can get into a world of hurt if they allow it to happen).  Debit cards are available to children as young as 13.
