Will this lapel microphone work if plugged into my iPhone

It's a simple lapel mic with your standard 3.5mm jack that will fit into the iPhone. If I were to plug this in to my iPhone (5S if that matters), attach the lapel to my shirt collar, and started recording it with something such as Voice Memo, would it register? I know the EarPods as well as some other earphones have built in mics on them, and the microphone will register into the same port that the audio is coming out of.
