Nov 18, 2014 6:51 AM in response to kfchan88by Roman B,I have the same exact problem. Also 2010 iMac. Have you found any solution?

Nov 18, 2014 7:17 AM in response to Roman Bby kfchan88,Unfortunately not.
I tried to recover from my OSX Maverick partition and that failed with some strange error.
I then tried to reinstall with my original Mac OSX disc and that failed too.
Since I don't have any important data on my iMac, I used Disk Utility to erase the Macintosh HD default partition and reinstalled successfully using my original disc on the 2nd try.
Its appalling how poor Apple's software QC is these days !

Nov 18, 2014 7:20 AM in response to kfchan88by R.Simon, not having the exact same issue, but I'm too encountering issues on System Boot (different machine though):
This is something you might try:
- delete PRAM (cmd-alt-p-r)
- rebooting from the Recovery Partition (cmd-r while booting) and use DiskUtil to check the HD
- rebooting into Safe Mode and check HD, Permissions, Startup Volume
(if you're uncertain about these suggestions, please do a research on Apple Support Pages first)

Nov 18, 2014 7:35 AM in response to kfchan88by Roman B,I was able to boot the system in safe mode. Then the system somehow resumed the installation of 10.10.1 update. It finished and I restarted the iMac successfully. Now everything is back to normal.
Anyways, guys, thanks for the reply.

Nov 18, 2014 7:38 AM in response to kfchan88by Payam Minoofar,I'm having this problem with my 2010 MBP. I keep getting the prohibitory sign (do not enter sign) at boot.
The only thing I can think of is that I can think of is that I upgraded my hard drive to a Samsung SSD earlier in the year, and I sed Chameleon SSD to activate TRIM on the hard drive.
But, this was not a problem when I upgraded from Mavericks to three version of Yosemite Beta, to Yosemite final. So, I don't know why it would matter now.
My computer was essentially bricked by 10.10.1 update.

Nov 18, 2014 9:16 AM in response to Payam Minoofarby R.Simon, afaik, Yosemite introduces changes on the file system and also introduces a new security feature for .kext signing, which obviously makes it even harder to enable Trim on 3rd-party SSD.
Booting from Recovery Partition (cmd-r) might give you access to the computer and the ability to at least use diskutil.
A Safe Boot might get you into the System to deactivate your Trim Enabler (until you find a solution).
It seems that there are ways to deactivate Yosemite's Kext Control mechanism to enable TRIM for 3rd party SSD with newer tools.
This might be interesting to read:

and there are threads about this issue at MacRumors Forum.

Nov 18, 2014 2:39 PM in response to Eric Rootby djaigs,For anybody having startup issues in connection with the OS X 10.10.1 update.
After i installed the 10.10.1 update and rebooted my macbook, it got stuck on the Apple logo with the progress bar at around 50%.
i had to remove the file /var/db/.launchd_rebuild_caches in Single-User-Mode(booted up with Command-S).
After that the macbook booted up fine and finished the update.
Hope this helps!

Nov 19, 2014 11:47 AM in response to kfchan88by swsties,I am having similar issues but so far nothing has worked. I can not get into safe mode for recovery mode. I tried target disk mode and did a disk repair, it fine. I tired single user mode and everything is fine, I even tried removing the file listed above but it could not be found. I would appreciate any suggestions. I have a TM back up but if I can't get into recovery mode it does not do me much good. This is a 2011 MBP with a apple HD.

Dec 19, 2014 3:30 AM in response to kfchan88by ErikTheCyclist,I just time machined back to the last build that worked on my iMac 27 2011.
I still have my computer and it works fine, even though HAL says the hard drive is failing. I don't have an Apple store within 100 miles.
I can't believe Apple has not addressed this problem.

Dec 19, 2014 8:19 AM in response to ErikTheCyclistby Payam Minoofar,I use Chameleon SSD Optimizer (http://chameleon.alessandroboschini.com). The developer has excellent instructions on how Apple's original drivers can be restored via command line in recovery mode. I used his instructions to boot, then to disable kext signing and to enable TRIM again.
Plan on restoring Apple's drivers (extensions) before doing future updates. That's going to by our MO going forward.
