After I move 40 GB of video files to iCloud drive from my Mac, my Mac hard drive does not indicate that I have 40 GB of additional space on it. Why not?

    Because all iCloud Drive content is locally mirrored on your Mac.

     

    iCloud Drive is not an external drive, it is a synced folder. What you move to iCloud Drive will upload to iCloud and sync to your other devices, but it will stay on your Mac, so you can access it, when the Mac is offline.
