Q: Sync iPod with iTunes: all movies recopied every time.
- iPod touch 5th generation with latest version of iOS (8.1.1)
- iTunes (12.0.0.140) on latest version of Yosemite (10.10.1)
- MacBook Pro 13" late 2013 model (8GB RAM, 256GB SSD).
Starting with iOS 8.0 I see an annoying problem when syncing media to the iPod. Almost all movies and TV shows gets recopied every time I sync even though I haven't touched these on either the MBP or the iPod so no play status needs to be copied.
Could it have anything to do with my Music folder being symlinked to an smb mount from a NAS box? This was working perfectly before. In addition to the above sync problem, if I copy files from apps on the iPod, for example DocsToGo, the files do not maintain the modification date but instead gets the file copy time as the modification time. This happens only when copying files to a folder residing in an smb mount. Doing the same to the local disk on the MBP maintains the original modification time on the files.
The only reason I'm using smb (CIFS) instead of AFP is because smb is case insensitive. I access the same folders from Windows 8.1 PCs on the same network and these will have problems when multiple files match, for example dsc00031.jpg and DSC0031.JPG match each other on the PCs. I can only access the first of these two files.
iPod touch (5th generation), iOS 8.1, 64GB
