Q: Yosemite 10.10.1 update fails to boot

This update installed properly on my 2011 mini, but it bricked my 2010 MBP.

When I clicked restart, the MBP started to reboot, but need with the prohibitory sign (do not enter sign). I cannot boot into safe mode, and I am presently repairing the volume via recovery partition.

Has anyone else experienced this?

The only thing I can think of is that I used a third party piece of software to enable TRIM on the Samsung SSD I installed in the MBP 6 months ago, but this was not an issue through three or four OS upgrades and updates.

Thanks!

OS X Yosemite (10.10)

I have this problem too on my 2007 MBP. Apple needs to get their stuff together, this is the second time Yosemite has screwed me over. Luckily my dad's computer still had the 10.10 Installer on it so I'm currently making it bootable to a USB Flash Drive to see if that works. Hopefully it should work without damaging any of my data. I hope this problem is resolved. It seems that newer Macs are able to update successfully from what I've observed, so Apple is definitely leaving the older vets out.

Yes, it's happen with me too.

I have samsung SSD 840pro 256gb with TRIM from Github. And i think there is a problem with this third party SSD. Now i'm trying boot from usb and see if i can disabled or restore to original that trim.

My problem is solved. And it's about SSD Trim.

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Early 2011), Samsung 840 pro 256Gb. I'm using https://gist.github.com/return1/4058659 trim method, and solved with http://www.cindori.org/trim-enabler-and-yosemite/

    Sorry about my bad english.

    Thanks.

Back after 10.10 install, it worked for me. If you can get your hands on the 10.10 downloader, I think you should be good to go. I don't think I'll be letting my Mac do critical updates for a while, unless there is a bug that I run into that really needs to be fixed.

I have a similar problem. My 2010 iMac stucks while booting after upgrading to 10.10.1. In my case, the screen is all grey and I can see nothing but the mouse pointer. I have tried rebooting a couple of times, but got no luck. This iMac is with a factory installed HDD (no SSD). Can anyone tell me what to do?

Thank you very much. I am way too busy, but I will try it tomorrow.

How did you disable trim again? Did you use the command line from the recovery partition?

IN your case you may have to wait about an hour for the first boot. There is another thread about the problem you're experiencing.

Do you mean that after reverting to 10.10 you managed to install 10.10.1? Or are you staying with 10.10?

Do you have a third party ssd too?

I also have an early 2011 MacBook Pro with Samsung 840 EVO SSD (256 GB) and have enabled TRIM with Trim Enabler.

My update to 10.10.1 worked smoothly.

Be sure to have the latest version of Trim Enabler (3.3), and review info here. If using an earlier version of TE, remove it and its TEAuth file, and all earlier TE installers, and download the latest version then follow directions.

I think the problem is what method used to trim. I'm using manually Github Trim Enabled method, not execute .sh file, just type in terminal one by one, and i'm never use software/applications to enable trim my Samsung 840pro.

I don't know how to restore/disabled if you use software method, but if you're using Github Trim method, that url describe with very clear, and yes, i'm using terminal from recovery (cmd+R). Just follow Recovering from stop sign on boot screen section.

I'm not sure, but maybe you could try though using trim enabler software. Backup first from recovery partition.

Maybe you can try repair disk permission at recovery partition (press cmd+R while booting and go to disk utility).

I don't think if this update will be troubled with my trim enabler. And i don't know if i should disabled/restore trim. Just download dmg update, install, reboot, and stuck with white circle grey background. NVRAM dan PRAM not work.
