No way to know. Sim Free simply means it has no Sim. Whether you can use a sim from a different provider is dependent on whether the iPhone you buy is unlocked or not.

Make sure the iPhone you buy is unlocked. Whether it has a Sim or not is not as important.

If buying from CarPhone Warehouse, the iPhone may be unlocked, but will almost always lock to the carrier of the first sim card inserted in it.

It states on their website it locks to the first sim card used, but their employee said that it would work putting an Irish sim in if it was any other make of phone, but that Iphone's are different,as they will lock if it's not a sim from the same region.

Which i found surprising,as any other phone i've bought in there in the past worked ok if i put in my Irish sim first...

Lets analyze that for a moment.

And what will they lock to? If they lock to the Sim that was put in them (assuming an Irish Sim), then there is no issue if its not from the same region. If they don't lock to that then what would they lock to?

They can't simply just generally lock up.
