I was able to fix this by restoring my phone but it only lasted a few days before it was doing the same thing again. I tried re syncing my ibooks from iTunes on the comp and that didn't work either.
Hi there Eyes-only, I'll see if I can help you with this problem.
Try some basic trouble shooting steps first to see if they help the problem:
• Multi tasking quit iBooks (double click the home button then slide ibooks away)
• Perform a hard reset on your device (hold down the power button & home button until you see the apple logo)
If these fail to solve the problem, you're going to have to move onto some more time consuming steps.
• Backup your device then entirely reset & erase it, then setup your device again restoring it from your backup via iCloud.
• Failing this, attempt a software reset using iTunes
Let me know if any of these steps resolve the problem, or get you any further to a solution.
Kind Regards.

I Did restore my phone twice. The app worked for short periods of times after the restore and then wemy back to freezing then crashing after opening. I have also tried turning my phone off and doing a hard reset
I'm having same problem on iPhone 5 since installing iOS 8. Now I'm on iOS 8.1.1 and still problem occurs. On way to solve resetting or restoring software
Upgraded to 8.1.2
iBooks still crashes few seconds after opening
This solved my problem. Thank you so much!
Tried all the steps here and did not work for me.
I did a hard reset and then deleted the last book I downloaded before iBooks started giving problems. That worked for me.
For me it started on after upgrading to the last 8,4,1 update. Never had the problem before. It happens on my iPad Mini and iPhone 6. I did not restore, because when i stop on of the devices it works for a few hours. I had the idea it ha something to do with the iCloud syncing, but can't find anything on it. Hopefully iOs 9 gives a relief
Same thing happened to me with the newest iOS version, but luckily the hard reset did the trick. For anyone else experiencing this issue, go straight to the hard reset, it seems to solve (almost) everything!
For me nothing worked until i logged out of iTunes Store after a restart of my Phone and iPad, then logged in again. Works for 3 days now..... Fingers crossed.
