There's another solution that worked for me (and I did not have xtrafinder on my system):
Go to System>Preferences
At the bottom is a checkbox for "Recent Tags" that has a white dot next to it. Uncheck the box and it's fixed.
But I have no idea why it happens. It's happened to me 3-4 times ver the last 10 years on different Macs, always when I drag something to a folder (either another folder or a file).
Every Mac user I know has had it happened - I'm amazed there are not more questions posted.
Press the COMMAND key, hold down the trackpad and drag the icon off of the side bar.
Ciao.
i don't want to remove it from the sidebar i want the download folder in the sidebar but it looks this weird white icon
i remove & put back still the same white icon
i want it look normal like it was
Same problem here no solution yet so any help is welcome
Ok fixed it. XtraFinder was causing it. If you got it installed go to ~/Library/Application Support/XtraFinder
Choose a version ans click uninstall.
You got ya default icons back
Unchecking the "recent tags" didn't fix it for me. The only fix I have found is to remove the folder from the sidebar and then drag it back... this is so stupid. why is apple doing this????
