I Was having huge issues with ios 8.1 with my iPhone 4S. My battery would drain in seconds and wouldn't reboot until charged, then after charging it for a couple minutes, it would say it had 80% charge and then drain all over again!! I downloaded the new update and it's doing the SAME thing again!!! Help!!!
You can try to make a backup in iTunes and then restore to factory settings.
After that, restore from backup.
May be it works...

Se o iPhone aquece é porque algo está a ocupar o processador. Verifique por exemplo o que está a trabalhar em 2.º plano.

Yes, also have this issue. My 4s on IOS 7 lasted the entire day, now it's 4 - 6 hours on IOS 8.1.1, not happy!
the only noticable difference is that it looks like location is on all of the time, beacause the icon is allways showing...
First if the 4S is old and you haven't changed you battery for years, then change it now. Batteries do have little life.
Second uncheck the apps which uses your locations(under the privacy menu) that you don't want to use all the time. Like there is an app Connect that will use your GPS 24/7 to track your location and will drain the battery quickly. Do this to all the other apps till that location icon disappears and pinpoint the apps that you want to track your location and use it when needed.
I have the same issue. Ridiculous battery drain on iPhone 4s. Didn't have problems with any previous iOS. Wifi is now laggy too. Same issue with my ipad 3 too. I've already re-installed from iTunes and unchecked un-needed boxes here & there. For saying 8.1.1 was supposed to fix issues in that model (I had none before!) its been the opposite from my experience.

The solution? Reinstall 8.1
I had the same problem: 8.1.1 drains the battery of my iPhone 4s. The installation had turned on 'push' for emails, and possibly a lot more. Did all tricks (location services off, refresh apps background off, display manual / dimmed, etc) and even reinstalled 8.1.1 a second time. Made all no big difference, the battery performance remained very, very poor. In a few hours it drains from 100 to 70% or so, without any 'obvious' activity (battery usage will indicate that the iPhone is still active for many hours while asleep, but for no obvious reason).
Yesterday I reinstalled 8.1, overnight the phone only lost 10%, and during the day my phone went from 90 to 84% only. Thus the battery usage is now very good!
My advise: reinstall 8.1 now (for the 4s: the iOS 8.1 firmware, iPhone4,1_8.1_12B411_Restore.ipsw, is still signed by Apple, date 24/11/2014; so it is still possible).
