This gives you the SAME iTunes library on the computer, including supporting data such as playlists, ratings, play count, etc. Your iPod will also see it as the same iTunes library. If this is possible, this document tells you how
Back up your iTunes library by copying it to an external drive - Apple Support
If it's not possible (and you don't have a backup)... iTunes syncing is generally in one direction only, from the computer's iTunes library to the iPod. You cannot use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer. However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer. If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links, including a CNET article on the topic.
Going forward, you're a Mac user, so (if you don't already) you should get a big external drive and use the built-in Time Machine feature to continuously back up ALL of your valuable user data. NOTE: If you were using Time Machine already, you can use that as the source for restoring your old iTunes library onto your new MacBook.
