Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

I accidentally deleted iBooks on my Macbook Pro (late 2011) running on OS X 10.10.1 Yosemite. Will iBooks be reinstalled if I install the next OS X major update once it is out?

What should I do to get iBooks back in case it won't reappear? Thanks!

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)

Hi ..

No it won't.

You may be able to restore from a Time Machine backup > Time Machine - How do I view or restore selected items?

If you don't have a backup, you will have to restore OS X using OS X Recoveryin order to reinstall the iBooks app.

It's not available from the App Store as a standalone download.

Just in case, check your Trash can.

I deleted iBooks from my Yosemite 10.10.0 installation. It came back when I reran the Yosemite 10.10.0 installation on top of my existing iBooks-free Yosemite 10.10.0 machine.

I deleted iBooks again from Yosemite 10.10.0. It came back when I upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.1.

If you want to get iBooks back before Yosemite 10.10.2, I'd suggest simply rerunning the upgrade to Yosemite 10.10.1 on your system.

Steven

TJT_1005,

No, you simply need to reinstall Yosemite 10.10.1 on top of your existing 10.10.1 machine.

1. Start the "App Store" app on your Mac

2. Search for "OS X Yosemite"

3. Click "Download"

After it has downloaded, run it again. You can run the 10.10.1 installation as many times as you wish. It will reinstall iBooks and anything else you might have inadvertently deleted.
