Huge growing Screen Smearing - iMac 27" Late 2009

Applecare ran out last year. What are my options here. I've never seen an LCD develop smears like this before.

iMac (27-inch Late 2009), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

Take it to an AASP or make an appointment at the local Apple Store with a Genius. Those are the two options available to you.

The closest Apple Store to where I live is about a 6 hour drive. So that's not really an option.

That is why I suggested contacting an AASP, you may find one that is significantly closer.
