Q: No sound when using external audio device when using quicktime or previewing audio and video files after update(yosemite)

I have a focusrite firewire audio interface that is use for any audio related software and for listening to music, I have found that after upgrading to yosemite I can no longer hear any audio when I use quicktime or when I hit spacebar to preview files in finder and on my desktop. however Logic, ableton Itunes and VLC work fine. This is a pain when I want to audition a file before using it in logic or when I just want to listen to a song without opening iTunes.
