Q: itunes is currently unavailable

My Apple TV 3 has been playing up for a few days, possibly since the latest update - not sure.

Basically, i can no longer play any purchased TV/movies or iTunes Match music via the Apple TV (still fine via my other Apple devices - Mac, iPad 2, iPhone 4S) and the following message appears, accompanied with a black screen and yellow triangle "iTunes is currently unavailable. Try again later."

I've searched the forms boards and found a bunch of possible solutions that haven't worked: reset and/or restart Apple TV, Sign out and back in to iTunes on both the Apple TV and my Mac, switched Dolby Digital from Auto, On and Off - nothing has worked.

Could this be an Apple server authentication issue? On purchased movies and TV, it's at the authentication stage that things seem to stop.

Any help/advice would be hugely appreciated. Right now, iTunes Match and Apple TV aren't doing the job I paid for.

ADd me to the list my Apple TV not working here either.  Sent apple an email.  Hoping for a fix soon.  Love that can connect to buy a movie, just not watch it.   So we are sitting here right now NOT watching Guardians if the Galaxy, that I paid for last night- Terrific!   Oddly enough I can watch a movie that I rented last night.

I can play my movies from other devices just fine. It look like server issue for Apple TV. I also noticed my AirPlay doesn't work which is another hints that this is Apple TV server side.

Same issue for me.  I have an AppleTV 2 and 3.  The purchase of a "free" show last week fixed the problem, but now it is back again.  All other apps work and I can download the purchased content to my laptop without issue.  I contacted support via Email and got a response...to check the support communities.  They did not acknowledge the issue, but clearly from the number of posts there is an issue on their end.  This is likely my first major complaint about an Apple product in many years.

Seems Apple's servers don't have an issue letting you purchase movies. They'll take your money whether or not you can watch it. Spent £10 on a movie for tonight and can't watch it. They should at least warn you that the servers are down before you spend your money. Really frustrated right now. How about showing some goodwill to your customers Apple and issuing some refunds for inconvenience?

So around 12:30 pm I was watching Tangled with my daughter enjoying some father daughter time and then poof while watcuing the movie I get this error took about 2 1/2 to 3 hours trying to fix it and then realized that since it's asking for authorization I logged out of my iTunes account and log back in and now the problem is solved.

If you check your Icloud settings on the ATV (2nd&3rd), there is a switch for turning off a preference for Icloud streaming or not.

If you download to your computer, and can use airplay to your TV it may work if you turn off the cloud streaming for "purchased" content.

Workaround, but NOT a permanent solution.  I've been with Apple since before 1991.  VERY disappointed for the first time!!!!

The same issue in Russia. Started in a day or two (several days before I was able to rent and view a movie).

Reboot, reset and restore - no luck.

BTW, switching AirPlay setting on AppleTV does not help either. I can play movies on Mac, iPhone, iPad, but cannot even stream them to AppleTV if they're not downloaded.

According to forum, there are several replies from Apple reps that issue is acknowledged, however, http://www.apple.com/support/systemstatus/ does not show any issues.

Add me to the list. 3 x ATV3s none are working when I want to stream purchases from iCloud - for last 5 days. Restarted the router, devices etc etc etc still not working... I also get the error message at the 'authorizing' stage.. I havent changed anything recently (except the recent update!) and everything is set up as standard/always. As everyone else, everything else works except streaming from itunes..... Hurry up and fix it Apple, looks like this exponential growth of disgruntled customers can't be a coincidence!

I've tried to reset and update it three times. It still does not work. The connectivity to iTunes is not working properly.

All working again tho not sure if it was my fix or if apple did something. I did the following:

    1. Logged out of iTunes account on apple tv
    2. Unplugged mains lead and HDMI lead
    3. Went away, had a cup of green tea with mint.
    4. watched about an hour of tv on my sky planner
    5. plugged in mains lead and HDMI
    6. logged in to iTunes again on apple tv

Success!!!! hope its sorted for everyone else soon.
