Q: itunes is currently unavailable

My Apple TV 3 has been playing up for a few days, possibly since the latest update - not sure.

Basically, i can no longer play any purchased TV/movies or iTunes Match music via the Apple TV (still fine via my other Apple devices - Mac, iPad 2, iPhone 4S) and the following message appears, accompanied with a black screen and yellow triangle "iTunes is currently unavailable. Try again later."

I've searched the forms boards and found a bunch of possible solutions that haven't worked: reset and/or restart Apple TV, Sign out and back in to iTunes on both the Apple TV and my Mac, switched Dolby Digital from Auto, On and Off - nothing has worked.

Could this be an Apple server authentication issue? On purchased movies and TV, it's at the authentication stage that things seem to stop.

Any help/advice would be hugely appreciated. Right now, iTunes Match and Apple TV aren't doing the job I paid for.

Interesting on the Family Share thing.   Mine started after an update on Saturday morning so I don't know if it was that or the Family Share.  I did remove the Family Share on Sunday and did a full reset on the AppleTV to see if that was the issue and it didn't clear it.  Maybe its a combination of the two.  Definitely an authorization issue.

Same problem here.  We have 2 Apple TVs and cannot stream from either one.

I just purchased my new Apple TV and installed it this morning.  Disappointed to learn that this is happening.  Return is in order.

There's no point in returning it; you'll not make things work any better that way

It's an unfortunate glitch that we're all suffering from; just need patience and wait for Apple to resolve it!

I've had mine for years, but if everyone showed up at an Apple Store to return them, you might at least get an explanation and maybe they might devote a little more effort into fixing it.

Same issue here in UK, plus when you do eventually get to watch your legally purchased movies the streaming is snails pace. Saying 1hr before I can start watching anything! Amazing attitude from these companies... You are literally better off getting illegal downloads! They work!!! Apple already rip us off here in the UK with their weird pound for dollar exchange rate! Getting pretty sick of being taken for a fool.

Same problem here in Denmark. I can see and browse iTunes Match library but "iTunes is currently unavailable; please try later" appears when trying to play music. In addition to this my ATV has been lagging a lot lately when streaming music via ipod/ipad/macbook (no wifi problem or bandwidth issues). I suspect a general software problem...

Yeah, this widespread of an problem must go beyond localized networking issues.

The thing that makes me sad about this is that Apple has, per the norm, opted to not notify users of any issues.  I know they must be aware of this problem.  A simple, "We know there is a problem and we're working on a hot-fix solution" would go a lot farther than Apple's infamous [dead air].

We've all but cut the cord here and our Apple TV is our primary outlet for movies and TV shows...  I guess we needed a vacation from watching too much television and Uncle Apple is here to save the day!

Such is [my] life I suppose.

    Same problem over here (Germany).

Strangely enough, if I use another apple ID on the exact same ATV, it works just fine!!!

    Its really frustrating !!

Just for a laugh, I'm going to go into my local Apple Store tomorrow and ask them to demo Apple TV for me, specifically streaming from cloud. Will let you know what they say!

We too had a similar experience. My ITunes account will not play any Itunes content on Apple TV, but my husband's account seems to be working just fine.

All I know is my family is not buying ANYTHING from Itunes until they fix this problem. We are not paying for movies or TV shows that we can't watch.

I too have been having the issue since last week and cannot access any itunes purchases (music, movies) unless via the laptop and/or iPad.  I cannot even airplay my content from these to the TV via Apple TV.  So this is very frustrating.  Have 3 ATVs and while having some connectivity issues over the years, this has been the WORST.  I would not recommend these to anyone right now, which is a big shame.

I too haven't been able to stream my paid content thru appleTV for the better part of a week. Tried three different networks and still the same results. I've been using appleTV for all of my TV viewing but no more. Went and signed up for Time Warner cable again after  2 year break. At least I can get a real person to acknowledge and fix the problem.
