8.1.1 Bluetooth Issues- 2012 Toyota Tundra

8.1.1 Pretty much destroyed half of my bluetooth capabilities. I just switched from Android to IOS and this update has been a big disappointment. I had a Moto-Maxx previously, that over the 14 months I owned it, gradually improved Bluetooth capability on my Toyota from poor to mediocre with each update. There were never any steps backward that I can remember. I didn't really know how bad it was until I got my 6 Plus. Then all of a sudden things started to work that I didn't even know would work. I could have turn by turn directions quiet the radio and be heard without having to hit the Aux button on the radio. It was near perfect comparatively. Then came 8.1.1 and I went back to the dark first days of my Maxx ownership. I couldn't even even listen to turn by turn directions without switching the radio to AUX and listening to music at the same time. If I paused the music, it was just dead silence. I couldn't even listen to my Google Voice messages at all using the app. The messages were playable through the web. It was a big step backwards.I tried disconnecting the phone and deleting it on the radio, then reconnecting. I tried resetting all the iPhone settings which was no fun at all. Then I gave up.

I reverted back to 8.1 and all is well again. I have functionality I never had using Android. I'm a happy camper. Clearly this isn't all Apple's fault, but I don't see why with all the obvious differences between bluetooth systems, all phone operating systems don't have some way to adjust for the various differences. Clearly, Apple had it working at one point and broken at another. We are seeing this on other vehicles too. There is a Mazda thread here as well where Bluetooth was working with IOS 7, but not 8. I'm new to the iPhone, but my impression so far (after coming from years of using Android) is that Apple needs to slow down their upgrades as much as Google needs to speed up theirs. I'll be very hesitant to apply any future IOS updates unless something is clearly and annoyingly broken.

I have a 2012 Toyota Tundra, too. I just upgraded from the iphone 4S to the iphone 6 with iOS9. I can stream music via Bluetooth multimedia connection through my truck speakers but cannot place nor receive calls through the speakers. When I press the "off hook" button on steering wheel, it pauses my streaming music and just says "not linked" on the display. When I press the hang up button, it starts streaming music from my phone again.

I didn't have these problems at all with my 4S. I have tried everything. Turning Bluetooth on and back off. Turning icloud off and back on. Logging into icloud.com and deleting my old iphone 4S from the settings. Resetting phone. Hard resetting phone. Resetting all network settings. Resetting "All settings." And even restoring phone to original factory setup.

Nothing, and I mean nothing, has worked so far. Apple needs to fix this now. I need my hands-free calling features back. It isn't an "upgrade" if you cannot use it with your vehicle. Come on!

Everything that you did was on the device, not anything to the vehicle. If you deleted the vehicle from the phone, did you delete the phone listing from the vehicle? I will tell you that if you read through the forums, Toyota is historically a problem vehicle when it comes to Bluetooth. They do not provide updates to their vehicle systems, which in turn makes them break with newer versions of Bluetooth profiles. Some people have been able to get around it, but many cannot. They are getting some relief from Toyota, but only in some vehicles. Contact Toyota as it is up to them to make their devices compatible with the mobile devices. Apple provides them with the iOS beta to work out any issues they may have. See if Toyota has done that and if they say their devices are compatible with the iPhone 6 and iOS 9.

I have deleted my phone from the vehicle system and re-paired it about 20 different times. I delete the vehicle from the phone, delete the phone from the vehicle, turn off the vehicle, turn off Bluetooth, turn vehicle back on, turn Bluetooth back on, re-pair the phone with vehicle and several other combinations in between. I have found 4-5 different threads on others with this issue and have followed lots of different strategies they have suggested. Nothing works so far. Please have the Apple techs look into a Bluetooth pairing problem with the iphone 6 and 2012 Toyota Tundra. Toyota shouldn't be expected to provide updates to the vehicle Bluetooth system--it isn't like vehicles can receive updates through the internet like phones can--their Bluetooth systems are what they are. The phone companies should create phone software that works with the existing vehicle systems.

You are not addressing Apple here. This is a user to user forum. If you would like to provide feedback to Apple about your concerns, do so at the feedback page, http://www.apple.com/feedback and click on the appropriate subject area. Again, it seems you understand the issue, as far as Toyota not being compatible, however it is not for Apple to design their devices to deal with individual vehicles, it is the other way around. I would say at this point, we will have to agree to disagree, considering your opinion on responsibility.
