Q: Gutted. Yosemite Mail lost all my signatures.

Gutted. Yosemite mail has lost all my signatures. 100+ time saving replies and standard emails, that have taken years to put together. They were there yesterday, and now only the names remain, the signature contents are blank.

So I used TimeMachine to replace user/library/mail/V2/signatures folder, with Mail closed - but this made no difference. Mail straight away wipes over it. The files remain in the signatures folder.

I originally copied my Mail folder direct from the last system, overwriting user/library/mail. On first launch, Mail took some time to update the folder. So surely this isn't the problem.

Any help gratefully appreciated. Anyone else with the same problem?

Thanks

Jon

    Please do the following:

    1. Close Mail.
    2. Restore your signatures from a backup.
    3. Open Terminal.
    4. Enter "syslog -w -k Facility com.apple.mail".
    5. Open Mail.
    6. In Terminal, press command-A and then command-C to copy the contents of the window to the clipboard.
    7. Paste the copied text, minus any personal information, into a reply to this post.

I was hoping that Mail's log would contain clues concerning the cause of the problem, but I'm afraid that it doesn't.

I have what seems to be the same issue - and I have no idea how to locate the " user/library/mail/V2/signatures folder. I cannot really make sense of what to do from this thread - and "idiot" proof simple step-by-step instructions I might try to follow?

    Thanks -

The User is you.  You are identified by whatever you put down as your name for Finder and there is a picture of a House by that ID.  Go to "Go" (the 6th item on the top menu bar including the apple) and press down "alt" key (bottom third from left on keyboard) at the same time as clicking on Go

You will see Library appear just under "Home" halfway down the list. Click on that and follow your way right to the Signatures folder

As a matter of interest I have tried to copy and paste my old data into this and it did not work so I, too , need a fix for this problem!

Yep, same problem here, all signatures gone after upgrading from Mavericks to Sierra.

Looks like the only way - at the moment - is to get them back by booting up on the clone disc I did before upgrade and paste all signatures I have in an email, send it to myself and then from Sierra Mail copy/paste to recreate each and every signature...

I know it's still a hassle if you have 100s, but maybe just do little by little as you need them?

You obviously need to have a clone of your old system or at least an external bootable disk where you can install a

previous osx system and drag your system mail files over there so you can get hold of all your previous signatures...
