Bizarre corruption. Help!

A very strange problem has occurred with my Aperture library. Here's the scenario. I have two NAS drives. Drive A + Drive B.

Pictures in my Aperture library are stored on Drive A whilst Drive B is used for work purposes.

All of a sudden, Aperture has started to overwrite pictures in my library with photos contained in Drive B. How can this be possible?

The directory path of the rogue photos is indeed pointing to Drive B but as the only person that ever uses my Mac, I just don't understand how this could've happened.

I have very important life-changing moment photographs in my Aperture library such as the birth of my daughter which I do not want to lose. When Aperture is opened, the thumbnails are literally changing in front of me and being switched to photos from Drive B.

And regarding any correct thumbnails that remain, they too have a directory path painting to Drive B. It should be Drive A. AAARGGH!!

My library has been in use for nearly 5 years and I've previously had no trouble at all.

I have tried restoring the library database from TM back-ups but the same thing keeps happening. Hope someone can help.

THANKS

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)

That is weird, indeed. Is your complete Aperture library on drive A, or is your Aperture library referencing the original photos on drive A?

If your photos are referenced, you could try to reconnect them to the originals on drive A, see this manual page: http://documentation.apple.com/en/aperture/usermanual/index.html#chapter=5%26sec tion=16%26hash=apple_ref:doc:uid:Aperture-UserManual-91292BSR-1037600

If your complete library is on drive A, you'd better move it to a locally mounted drive. You probably know, that keeping an Aperture library on a network drive is not supported and can lead to data loss, see this link: Use locally mounted Mac OS X Extended volumes for your Aperture library

Thanks for the reply. No, I wasn't aware networked drives weren't supported in Aperture. Both drives ARE on a network but had previously been working with no problems.

Also, Aperture IS referencing files on Drive A whilst the actual database is held locally on my MacBook Pro.

I think it's time to maybe switch the library over to Lightroom. I've been toying with it for some while and will probably have to do it eventually.

Thanks again.
