I just wondered what to use to clean the cd/dvd drive please. As it seems to be getting slower at downloading music from a cd to itunes. Also i havent cleaned the laser since i got the computer (2011) , wondered if a conventional cd/dvd cleaner would be sufficient enough.

I havent.
To get round it , i found not to use it too much in one go.
This is until , i get enough spare cash to buy a new one. Not really interested in one of these external ones.

Get a microfiber cleaning cloth, fold it over a credit card (or thin material) and push it into into the slot a few times.
Did it, there was a small improvement: some previous frequent rejection of DVDs no more happened.
But still, icon did not show up on the desktop.
What I did next was to check with different DVD-recordable manufacturers.
Happily, other manufacturers (such as Verbatim, Memorex, Xerox) now do work properly.
Silver Line DVD (what I started with) does not, although Silver Line CD yes works.

I was offered an USB connected Samsung super thin for around $40, looks like a CD plastic case but thinner.
My problem having been solved in a different way (see bellow) I did not purchase it.
