Nov 2, 2015 2:11 PM in response to The Studioby konnexion,Exact same issue, now on phone number 2. Going to return it for number 3 before warranty runs out. If that fails then I'll abandon the platform

Nov 9, 2015 9:04 AM in response to tommytomxby Jay Squared,Same here with this issue. Have never had a problem before and this problem is major. I've tried reseting and have not done a restore because everything I'm seeing shows people still having the issue. Guess I'll spend my day off at the genius bar as well. Just wish someone from Apple would reply to this so we can all just stop guessing. Tell us that the only thing to do is get it replaced or something!! PLEASE

Don't hold your breath. Had you bothered to read the Terms of Use of this forum that YOU agreed to by signing up to post, you would have known that while Apple hosts this forum on their servers, Apple is NOT here. This forum is populated by users just like you.

Nov 9, 2015 9:41 AM in response to tammyfromkingwoodby tammyfromkingwood,UPDATE: It is definitely a "structural" issue with the phone (i.e., updating and resetting the phone won't make a difference here). As another person noted, even a slight "bend" in the phone (iPhone 6+ seems to be most vulnerable) will cause the gray bar and render the screen unresponsive. The bending seems to occur on the upper left, between the volume buttons (at least for me). I found if i dropped the phone on a flat surface (just a few inches) it would sometimes respond. And slightly twisting the phone (it helps to remove the case) would allow me to at least answer a call - until I could get an appointment with the "Geniuses".
Unfortunately, the only fix for this issue is a new phone. Be prepared to shell out the $350+ for a refurbished phone if you are out of warranty. I had missed my warranty by 6 days and was prepared to make a scene; however, the Manager on duty agreed to replace (albeit with a refurbished unit) at no charge (I had record of issues for more than 3 weeks but couldn't work out an appt. time to bring it in). This will be my last "Plus" phone. I am not a fan of the size, and this issue sealed it's fate. I am stuck with this one for one more year...

Nov 9, 2015 10:22 AM in response to tammyfromkingwoodby seanfromoceanside ,the only fix is a new phone. They explained to me at the Apple Store that the screen is disconnecting from the brain of the phone and it is a defect in a lot of 6 plus phones. They have not had this issue in the regular 6 phones, only the plus. Hitting it or twisting it causes it to temporarily reconnect the screen but it doesn't last that long. Back up your phone and go into the Apple Store to get a new one. Apple really dropped the ball on this one...

Nov 12, 2015 7:26 PM in response to tammyfromkingwoodby celygomez31,Obviously im having the exact same problem, I know im still under warranty since I just got my phone two months ago. I was wondering about the whole refurbished phone deal, is that just if you're not under warranty? Or could I still get a new phone if i go in and show the geniuses the problem? I went into my carrier and they agreed to send me a phone but it might be refurbished. Again is there a chance I can get a new phone??
ADVICE PLEASE!!

Nov 21, 2015 9:31 AM in response to The Studioby Wildkatalina,I'm on my 4th iPhone 6plusAnd I am still having problem. I just called to make another Genius Bar appt. after 1/2 hour of troubleshooting that did not resolve grey bar (or sounds or emails) I was put on hold and given a supervisor. He told me he had never heard of anyone having these problems, had never heard of grey bar problem, issues I had were just on my phone, and finally, right before I hung up, he said he had the same phone and his was working perfectly.

Nov 28, 2015 9:23 AM in response to tommytomxby AlienTermite,I'm on my third iPhone 6 plus with this issue. Just made a Genius Bar appt. to get it swapped out again for same problem, that will be my 4th iPhone 6 plus. In all my years of owning iPhone's, I've never had an issue like this. It's utterly maddening, and clearly a defect with this particular model.

Nov 30, 2015 2:49 PM in response to AlienTermiteby Tier1TechWorks,Had this screen problem last night. My iphone had been running slow before this happened so it could be different. I removed the screen protector and still had the error. I did not do many diagnostics as to how much storage or memory I was using, but decided to do a total reset erasing everything. I have kept my photos on icloud from the reset and only added back a few apps. As of the last 4 hours it has been working flawlessly without the error. This leads me to believe I had too many apps or one of them could have been causing a memory leak or something to slow down the entire system. I will give an update if it comes back.

Jan 1, 2016 4:11 PM in response to tommytomxby Izaiah4,I Just had this issue with the same unresponsive touch, gray bar flickering at the top, and my phone would act up with Ghost touches. Basically when my phone would work, it would randomly flip pages and open apps.
to fix the problem, requires your Touch IC Chip to be replaced. If you look on YouTube for IPhone 6plus touch IC replacement, all issues will be fixed and doesn't require a new screen if your like me. My screen was perfectly in tacked, never dropped. Total cost for replacement $135, which is better than the price of a new phone or out of warrant cost. I never buy the apple protection plan so this replacement helped me tremendousl.
Hope this helps you or anyone else.

Jan 25, 2016 1:26 PM in response to tommytomxby DonovanQ94,Hello,
I am sitting in the Apple store right now with this same issue. It took them ten minutes, as it was a known and familiar issue for which they issued me a new phone, no cost. The problem is apparently a disconnect between the logic board and the "brain" of the phone. Essentially, an internal misalignment of the hardware. As such, it's a structural issue that requires a new phone and cannot simply be fixed on your current one.
My advice for those having this issue, don't bother taking matters into your own hands by wiping all your data and/or trying to preserve your current phone. Simply bring it to the store and they can manually realign it long enough for you to back it up, then you can simply receive your new phone and voila, good to go.
Hope this helps all! I know first-hand how frustrating this issue can be. Good luck!

Feb 16, 2016 2:47 PM in response to tommytomxby mendonipadrehab,Yes, this is a well known defect affecting many 6/6+. It is a defect of the one of the two touch ic chips on the logicboard. It can be solved by replacing the touch ic on the board as a board-level repair. Finding someone local to do micro-bga chip replacement on the board can be a challenge, but there are a handful of great independent repair shops that do this repair across the US every day. ******** Make sure to ask if the shop will replace the touch ic, versus those that will "reflow" the chip. Phones that get replacement chips do not have this issue come back, "reflow" is an inferior repair for this issue.
Before taking your phone to any independent repair company, do some research. There are many that are simply not qualified to do board level repair, or even general repair. Know that your out of warranty option for replacement of the device at Apple (trade in your phone, pay $349 for 6+) may be voided by seeking independent repair, however in my experience I have never seen this happen.
If your phone is still within the 1 year limited warranty, then Apple will certainly swap your device for free. If you are only a few months out from the end of your warranty you may want to give it a shot. Apple stores are well aware of this common defect and most realize that this is a failure of the touch ic.
Also--because this is a known board level defect, software solutions can not solve a hardware problem. No amount of restoring software will solve this problem.
